Restoring Promise

Restoring Promise

Description

Restoring Promise is an advocacy organization dedicated to ending mass incarceration and transforming prisons. Restoring Promise is currently working in 5 prisons and 1 jail throughout 6 states, including Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Massachusetts, North Dakota, and South Carolina. With a team of advocates, formerly incarcerated leaders, and researchers, Restoring Promise addresses the root causes and consequences of issues in the justice system. They also fight for the dignity of all justice-impacted people. Using restorative justice practices, they help repair harm and use it as a guide for resolving conflict in housing units. Program participants are able to discuss what happened, how people have been impacted, and what needs to happen so they can confidently move forward. Other advocacy initiatives of Restoring Promise include Cultural healing, which recognizes the pain caused by the criminal legal system and builds mentorship relationships between young adults and older incarcerated people focused on resilience to help achieve fairness. Contact Restoring Promise directly for more information on their advocacy initiatives.
