Texas Jail Project

Texas Jail Project (TJP) is an advocacy organization that empowers incarcerated people in county jails by raising their voices through stories, testimonies, and community building. Through advocacy, TJP ensures humane treatment and adequate healthcare for incarcerated people in Texas county jails. In addition, TJP writes articles, contributes to news reports, raises awareness and supports positive action from lawmakers, the media, and state agencies like the Texas Commission on Jail Standards. TJP’s director and volunteers speak with those confined in the county jails and their family members to understand their problems. Additionally, TJP’s website provides a wide range of essential information for families navigating the criminal justice system. This includes a link to the online form where people can report on prison conditions and ask questions, a medical release form with directions so families can obtain and give information about their loved one, a habeas corpus form, directions on steps a family can take to advocate for a loved one incarcerated while experiencing mental illness, tips on visitation and contact information for jails and lists of other resources.
