City of Winston-Salem Successful Outcomes After Release Program (SOAR)
Description
The Successful Outcomes After Release Program (SOAR) intends to offer formerly incarcerated people who meet program standards productive employment while also increasing the city's current workforce in areas of critical need. The city will assign temporary employment for six months. SOAR volunteers will work under direct supervision on ordinary labor jobs such as landscaping, mowing, maintaining public and historic buildings, collecting up paper and debris on public property and streets, and aiding with housing code enforcement. Participants will also receive life skills training in goal setting, planning, interpersonal relationship skills, diversity, personal accountability, financial management, communication, GED and post-secondary education, job search techniques, self-presentation, and resume writing through lectures, group discussions, and activities. The SOAR Program encourages participants to apply for full-time jobs in the city at any time while enrolled in the program. The program evaluates applicants to determine possible placement.
