Federal Public Defender District of Alaska’s Anchorage Office

Description

The Federal Public Defender District of Alaska's Anchorage Office is the main federal public defender's office for the state of Alaska. With one federal public defender, one first assistant federal public defender, and seven panel attorneys on staff, the Anchorage office provides legal representation throughout the State of Alaska to people charged with federal crimes. They also represent appointed clients in federal trial courts, and at the appellate and post-conviction “habeas” levels. The office of the public defender works to provide the highest level of support to those needing its services, despite a lack of monetary compensation. This office was created to fulfill the constitutional requirement that indigents charged with crimes in the federal justice system be provided with professional legal representation at little or no cost. Congress funds the Offices of the Federal Public Defender through the Defender Services Division of the Administrative Office of the United States Courts. For more information on the services provided by the The Federal Public Defender District of Alaska's Anchorage office, please contact them directly.
