The Federal Public Defender for the District of Kansas' Topeka Office is located in Topeka, Kansas. The Federal Public Defender for the District of Kansas' Topeka Office has six Public Defenders that represent criminal defendants accused of federal crime. The office also collaborates and build relationships with each other and others in the community to support you both in and out of court. Additionally, the Federal Public Defender's office educate and are constantly learning and teaching others new ideas about the law, poverty, race, and culture, and the need for institutional reform and systemic change. Federal Public Defenderss Office is appointed by the court. They cannot provide direct representation to a criminal defendant. The office staff is bifurcated into one Federal Defender, one First Assistant Federal Public Defender, four Assistant Federal Public Defender, a paralegal, two Investigators and one Systems Administrator.
