The Los Banos office of Merced County Public Defenders provides effective advocacy for the accused. Individuals unable to afford private counsel are daily appointed by skilled and dedicated attorneys from the Los Banos office. Thousands of clients a year facing the lowest level misdemeanor to the most serious felony receive the benefit of their legal counsel and trial advocacy. If you are charged with a felony and are unable to afford an attorney, the Public Defender’s Office may be appointed to represent you. It is important that you discuss your case with your attorney during all stages of the case to ensure the best possible level of representation. The Los Banos office's felony hours are by appointment only. Additionally, if you need to provide proof of community service, payments or programs, please e-mail them your documents at the email address provided. Public Defender attorneys also participate in the Family Resource Council’s Re-Direct Program, law-related presentations in local high schools, UC Merced’s mock trials, etc. as a part of their community outreach initiative. That way, the Public Defender's office has been meeting the needs of Merced County residents in need of effective advocacy against criminal prosecutions.
