The Santa Barbara County Office of the Public Defender is located in Santa Barbara. With over 40 attorneys, the office serves the whole Santa Barbara county. The mission of Santa Barbara County Public Defender's office is to zealously protect the rights, liberties and dignity of all persons in Santa Barbara County and maintain the integrity and fairness of the American Justice System by providing the finest legal representation in the cases entrusted to them through compassionate and innovative advocacy with care and respect for their clients. The office assists with felony, misdemeanors, civil commitment, conservatorship, Prop47, Expungements, and clear you record cases. They do not represent people charged with minor infractions (such as most traffic tickets). A small percentage of the cases they handle include representation of persons who are being involuntarily detained due to alleged mental illness; some contempt of court cases; and, representation of parties persons against whom the county is seeking to terminate parental rights.
