Description

The Public Defender’s Office serving Saint Lucie County is located just north of the Saint Lucie County Courthouse in Fort Pierce, Florida. The office handles criminal cases in both county and circuit court, juvenile cases, mental health cases, and domestic violence injunctions that are under the jurisdiction of Saint Lucie County. The Public Defender’s Office exists to guarantee the poor have the right to a fair trial and has the will to continue to uphold and enforce the Constitutional rights of the indigent; and thus, make the Constitution a living reality. The office provides legal representation in specialty courts like drug court, mental health court and veteran court. The Public Defender’s Office developed the Client Services Program to work with Assistant Public Defenders to advocate for those clients that due to an addiction, mental health diagnosis or a developmental disability may require additional assistance to resolve their cases.
