The Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit Public Defender's Office is located in Columbus, GA and serves indigent criminal defendants in Chattahoochee, Harris, Marion, Muscogee, Talbot and Taylor counties. The Office is staffed with Public Defenders and attorneys who undertake criminal cases in the counties mentioned above. The Public Defenders aim to keep a defendant out of jail, minimize the time they serve, present all information that helps them, use the story of the accused to improve their defense and provides a fresh start and second chance for the defendants. Overall, this office offers competent and zealous representation and advocacy to indigent clients. In addition, the Public Defenders represent clients in court at various stages of cases, including arraignments, preliminary and pretrial hearings, probation and sentencing, post-adjudication/post-conviction hearings, appeals or any related courtroom proceedings: negotiates at all stages on behalf of the client; prepares and argues motions; conducts jury selection, makes opening and closing statements, presents evidence, and questions witnesses; and makes appropriate objections and arguments.
