The Jefferson County Public Defender's Office is located in Rigby, Idaho. WIth Public Defenders and Panel Attorneys on staff, this office provides legal representation as court-appointed attorneys in criminal defense cases resulting from lawsuits filed against the indigent client in the Rigby County. A judge will advise individuals if they can receive public defender services. The right to counsel guaranteed to every American citizen accused of a crime is embodied in the Sixth Amendment to the United States Constitution and applicable to the states through the Fourteenth Amendment. An integral component of the right to counsel is the right to court-appointed counsel for those unable to hire an attorney. The goal of the Public Defender is to provide a fully competent, effective, and ethical defense to each client whose cause has been entrusted to the office for representation. The application for a Public Defender must be submitted to the court for review and approval by the judge.
