Nez Perce Tribe, ID Public Defender’s Office
Description
The Nez Perce Tribe is a federally recognized tribe in north-central Idaho. The Public Defender's Office is part of the Law and Justice Department within the Nez Perce Tribe. The Law and Justice Department promotes the safety and well-being of community members and seeks justice for victims of crime. A public defender and their legal team are on staff to represent tribal citizens in criminal cases. Headquartered in Lapwai, ID, the Nez Perce Tribe Public Defender's Office represents all persons, juvenile and adult, accused of criminal matters in the Nez Perce Tribe Court. They strive to provide full representation throughout a case, ensure each tribe member's civil rights are protected, and provide information on rights and protections under Nez Perce Tribe Code and the Indian Civil Rights Act. The tribe is governed by a nine-member elected executive committee, known as the Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee or NPTEC.
