Iowa Office of the State Public Defender’s Marshall Town Office
Description
The Iowa Office of the State Public Defender (OSPD) has a satellite office located in Marshall Town, Iowa. This office is mainly tasked with coordinating and administering the Indigent Defense System in Marshall County. The mission of OSPD is to ensure that all indigent persons in Iowa are provided high-quality legal representation in criminal, juvenile, and other eligible proceedings in the most efficient and fiscally responsible manner. To further that mission, several resources are provided on the OSPD's website to assist public defenders and other court-appointed counsel in improving the quality of their representation. These resources include a sentencing summary chart, investigator resources, juveniles resources, legal research and other resources. In addition, the Public Defender in Marshall County handles felonies A to D, aggravated misdemeanors, serious and simple misdemeanors, appeals to the district court, contempt/show cause proceedings and civil commitments of sexually violent predators, probation violations, parole violations, extradition and post-conviction relief.
