Description

The Lancaster County Public Defender's Office is located in Lincoln, Nebraska, and represents defendants who cannot afford an attorney. The office staff includes two Chief Deputy Public Defenders, 13 Public Defenders, three Misdemeanor Attorneys, one City Misdemeanor Attorney, five Juvenile Court Attorneys, and six Paralegals, providing high-quality legal services for indigent clients and advocates vigorously on behalf of each client. In addition, the Lancaster County Public Defender's Office has four divisional offices, including Felony, Misdemeanor, City Misdemeanor, and Juvenile. Some of the Public Defender's Office's goals are: recruit and retain attorneys and support staff who will provide high-quality legal representation for each client, maintain reasonable caseload levels for staff attorneys, and provide all resources and ancillary services necessary to represent the clients of the office etc. The Sixth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees the rights of criminal defendants, including the right to a public trial without unnecessary delay and the right to a lawyer. The privilege of offering representation to those in need is why the law has offered public defense services. Individuals may contact the organization directly or work through an attorney for more information or to file a claim.
