The Franklin County Public Defender's Office is located in Columbus, Ohio. With 91 attorneys, 12 social workers, and adjunct support staff totaling 120 full-time and 40 part-time employees, the Franklin County Public Defender's office is comprised of Municipal, Juvenile, Common Pleas, and Appellate departments. This Public Defender's office's mission is to provide comprehensive legal representation services in criminal, juvenile, and custody proceedings to indigent persons in Franklin County. The Sixth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees the rights of criminal defendants, including the right to a public trial without unnecessary delay and the right to a lawyer. The privilege of offering representation to those in need is the reason why the law has offered public defense services. To be eligible for representation by the Franklin County Public Defender office, all applicants must be financially screened and found to meet State Public Defender Eligibility Guidelines.
