Description

The Intermountain Public Defender's (IPD) Office is located in Pendleton, Oregon. This office has ten attorneys and eight support staff that handles approximately 3,000 cases each year. The Public Defender's office is an independent non-profit law firm with the goal of providing quality legal defense services to persons who cannot afford counsel. They handle various cases, including felonies, misdemeanors, probation violations, juvenile dependencies, juvenile delinquencies, and mental health commitments. Dedicated to being client-centered and improving the outcomes for their clients, IPD serves the State Courts in Umatilla County. Individuals seeking representation must complete an application and provide financial information to prove financial need. The right to counsel guaranteed to every American citizen accused of a crime is embodied in the Sixth Amendment to the United States Constitution and made applicable to the states through the Fourteenth Amendment. An integral component of the right to counsel is the right to court-appointed counsel for those unable to hire an attorney. Therefore, you should first contact the Intermountain Public Defender's office for further assistance.
