The Union County Public Defender's Office is located in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. The office provides free legal representation for any person charged with a criminal matter in Union County and for people who cannot afford an attorney for lack of funds. With one Public Defender and other supporting staff, the office ensures that every accused citizen, regardless of financial resources, receives zealous and effective representation as mandated by the United States and Pennsylvania Constitutions. The roles and responsibilities of the Union County Public Defender's Office are to provide legal representation, consultation, and advice to clients, represent clients through criminal investigative proceedings, create a defense plan, conduct legal investigative research, and interview the necessary clients and witnesses, work closely with clients, discuss relevant information and strategies. Individuals determined to be eligible for court-appointed counsel do not have the right to choose who their attorney will be. However, they do have the right to have competent legal representation.
