The Bamberg County Public Defender's Office in South Carolina comes under the Second Judicial Circuit. This office has one Circuit Public Defender, two Chief Public Defenders and one Deputy Public Defender, responsible for representing defendants in criminal courts who are financially unable to hire an attorney for their case. Public Defenders do not represent persons in prison and seeking release on parole. Public Defenders also do not represent persons on parole who have been charged with a parole violation and persons accused of non-payment of child support. State and federal law provide that all persons have the constitutional right to be represented by an attorney if they have been accused of a crime and the punishment for that crime could be a time in jail or prison.
