The Berkeley County Public Defender is a client-centered law firm located in Moncks Corner, SC. They are part of the Ninth Judicial Circuit. The office has one Public Defender, one Deputy Public Defender, six Attorneys, one Juvenile and General Sessions Attorney and one Magistrate Court Attorney on staff. Altogether, they provide effective, client-centered legal representation by meeting with the defendant, investigating their case and then providing energetic, skilled advocacy. Their General Sessions attorneys focus their practice entirely on the defense of serious cases in SC General Sessions Court which is the state felony trial court. Additionally, they represent youths who are 17 years old or younger who are facing charges of breaking the law or violating a judge's order. Some of their attorneys also defend serious cases in the Berkeley Magistrate Courts, including arrests for criminal domestic violence, property crimes, assaults, and driving offenses, including DUI. If you are in jail, you will be screened for a lawyer. If you are out on bond, you must apply to get an appointed PD lawyer.
