Description
The Sixteenth Judicial Circuit Public Defender's Office represents indigent criminal defendants in Union County. This office has one Circuit Public Defender, one Assistant Public Defender and two Public Defenders on staff. The Public Defenders in Union County represent defendants in criminal court who are financially indigent. The South Carolina Commission on Indigent Defense (SCCID) oversees the administration of the indigent defense services in Union County. State and federal law provide that all persons have the constitutional right to be represented by an attorney if they have been accused of a crime and the punishment for that crime could be a time in jail or prison. To be represented by a Public Defender, you must complete an Application for Counsel.
