The Alaska Department of Corrections (DOC) is a governmental agency that provides reformative programs, and a process of supervised community reintegration to enhance the safety of our communities. The DOC is committed to a proactive reentry process that supports individuals transitioning out of incarceration by providing them with the tools needed to be productive, healthy and contributing members of communities across the state. They empower reentrants to successfully transition into communities through collaborative release planning including; individualized case management, programming, and positive family, community and peer support services to increase public safety and reduce recidivism rates. The DOC's health and rehab services (HARS) is responsible for providing medical, behavioral health, dental, vision, and pharmaceutical services to individuals incarcerated in Alaska's State-operated correctional facilities. The DOC also utilizes evidence-based practices and effective supervision to improve the successful community reintegration of pretrial defendants, probations, and parolees.
