Tarrant County Conviction Integrity Unit

Tarrant County Conviction Integrity Unit

Description

The Tarrant County Conviction Integrity Unit is a subdivision of the Tarrant County District Attorney's office that looks into claims of innocence. Their mission is to act as an investigatory arm within the District Attorney's office and to process all formal claims of innocence filed by individuals or defense attorneys. In order to have a case considered by the Conviction Integrity Unit, individuals must offer credible evidence that was not presented during the course of the original trial, or demonstrate how new technologies can provide valuable and relevant insight into previously considered evidence. While the Conviction Integrity Unit is a part of the District Attorney's office, their role is to act in an advisory capacity. They may recommend that the District Attorney take further action based on the investigation of claims, but they do not have the power to exonerate individuals or request a new trial themselves. Individuals or their attorneys may contact the unit at any time with questions about the review process or to request information about a pending request.
