San Bernardino County Conviction Review Unit
Description
The Conviction Review Unit is an office of the San Bernardino County District Attorney's office that identifies serious claims of innocence. The purpose of the Conviction Review Unit is to support the San Bernadino County District Attorney's office as an investigatory branch tasked exclusively on formal requests for review of conviction. They first consider the validity of claims of injustice by conducting a complete investigation for all claims wherein individuals present reasonable evidence to support their claims of innocence, display strong evidence that they were wrongfully convicted or otherwise prove claims of injustice while interacting with the San Bernadino County justice system. Staff in the office determine the validity of claims filed with the court and determine whether or not plea bargaining has impacted the result of the case. Those claims of innocence that are proven during the course of investigation may result in a recommendation that the District Attorney reconsider whether or not evidence of injustice merits further action.
