Davis County Conviction Integrity Unit

Davis County Conviction Integrity Unit

Description

The Davis County Conviction Integrity Unit is an investigatory branch of the Davis County District Attorney's office. Their mission is to serve in an advisory capacity and uphold the District Attorney's commitment to justice by thoroughly evaluating all claims of innocence filed with the office. Staff work to determine credibility and eligibility through an unbiased investigation of the facts. Individuals must provide ample evidence to support their claims. This evidence must be new to the case and not previously considered by the court. Sometimes, individuals may demonstrate how new technologies allow for vital testing not available during the initial trial. While the Conviction Integrity unit is most often occupied by claims of innocence, staff do also investigate other claims of wrongful conviction and substantiated claims that a sentence is unnecessarily harsh given the nature of charges. For more information about the specific work of the unit, individuals or their defense attorneys may contact the office directly.
