Salt Lake County Conviction Integrity Unit

Salt Lake County Conviction Integrity Unit

Description

The Salt Lake County Conviction Integrity Unit is tasked with investigating all claims of innocence filed with the District Attorney. The unit is a subdivision of the Salt Lake County District Attorney's office that functions in an investigatory and advisory capacity. Their primary role is to uphold the commitment to justice by evaluating all filed claims of innocence for credibility and eligibility. In order to establish claims of innocence as credible, individuals must present evidence that is new to the case and directly relates to the claim of innocence, or demonstrate how technological improvements allow for new testing not previously available to the defense. The Conviction Integrity Unit only considers cases regarding currently incarcerated individuals with convictions from the Salt Lake County Superior Court. They cannot review petitions for expungement from formerly incarcerated individuals or process appeals under the jurisdiction of the Appellate Court. For more information, individuals or their attorneys may contact the unit directly.
