Safer Virginia

Safer Virginia is a nonprofit organization committed to serving individuals and families who are affected by sexual abuse. The organization advocates for legislation and policies that promote civil liberties, prevention, healing and restoration for individuals with convictions for sex based crimes. They believe strongly in educating the public about sexual offenses and ensuring that the community has accurate information regarding individuals are registered with the state. This includes providing resources about what types of offenses require registration, which programs exist to assist individuals during the reentry process after incarceration, effective prevention strategies for reoffense and recommendations to improve policies. Safer Virginia is entirely run by volunteers who believe that individuals with convictions for sexual offenses have constitutional rights, and that community members have a right to live in a safe environment. Their efforts focus on protecting civil rights and providing the support necessary to help ensure that individuals do not repeat their behaviors after incarceration.
