The Federal Community Defender Office for the Eastern District of Washingtonand Idaho's Spokane Office is the main federal community defender office for the Eastern District of Washington. With nine attorneys on staff, the Spokane office is a community defender program that represents individuals charged with federal crimes in Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho. They have two offices: the main office is in Spokane; the branch office is in Yakima. They are independent from the local federal judiciary and funded by a sustaining grant of approximately $9 million awarded by Congress under the Criminal Justice Act.
